NYC12: In the spring of 2012, I was able to attend a conference called NYC12 in New York City with a few others from The Vidette. This conference was such a privilege because I was able to learn so much more about writing and journalism. I also had the opportunity to meet the members of “Good Morning America” and tour the set with Robin Roberts due to being in the field that I am. While on-set, I learned more about journalism in the broadcasting sense, a field I had previously known little about.
Association 101: I was offered the opportunity to attend Association 101 in January 2015, led by the Association Forum of Chicagoland. This conference helped me to understand more aspects of working at a nonprofit, especially as an association. I learned about the financial and governance structures of organizations like ASSH, which, in turn, has helped me to understand my role there.
Personas and Segmentation: One of the best parts of joining SmithBucklin so far has been the development opportunities. Each year, the Marketing and Communications Services Unit (MCS) offers a training with a specific focus that is relevant to the field. During the fall of 2017, the focus was on the development of personas and segmentation for clients.
Introduction to Financial Management: Through SmithBucklin’s Learning Center, I was able to take advantage of this course in December 2017. This course refreshed me on the basics of financial management and how to read different financial statements.
